Composer – TV: Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Da Vinci’s Demons

Emmy Award-winning composer Bear McCreary was first launched into pop culture with his groundbreaking score to the hit series Battlestar Galactica, which was lauded by Variety as “the most innovative music on TV today.” It “fits the action so perfectly, it’s almost devastating: a sci-fi score like no other” (NPR). Io9.com ranked McCreary one of the Ten Best Science Fiction Composers of All Time, and recently WIRED Magazine declared him one of only five “Secret Weapons” of the television industry. Bear is currently scoring ABC’s smash hit series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., collaborating with the visionary Joss Whedon on Marvel’s first foray into network television. Bear’s many other credits include AMC’s record-shattering global phenomenon The Walking Dead, for which he teamed with writer/director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) and producer Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator). Bear has also collaborated with David S. Goyer (co-writer of The Dark Knight trilogy/Man of Steel) to score Da Vinci’s Demons, the epic historical fantasy that broke ratings records for STARZ and earned Bear his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music (Bear’s soaring theme is a carefully-constructed palindrome that sounds the same forwards or backwards!). Bear will return to STARZ in 2014, scoring the ambitious pirate drama Black Sails, for executive producer Michael Bay. Bear’s swashbuckling score for Human Target featured the largest orchestra ever assembled in the history of series television, and earned him his first Emmy nomination. Bear has also composed evocative scores for series such as Terminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesEureka, Caprica, Trauma, The Cape and the groundbreaking videogame / television hybrid Defiance. His feature film work includes the critically-acclaimed Europa Report (2013, starring Sharlto Copley), Knights of Badassom (2013, starring Peter Dinklange and Steve Zahn) and Disney’s worldwide hit Step Up 3D.  His videogame credits include Sony’s successful SOCOM 4: U.S. NAVY SEALs and CAPCOM’s Dark Void.
